Women's soccer team matches win total from 2013

Irvine Valley's women's soccer team matched its win total for last season with a victory on Tuesday.

The Lasers earned their 11th win of the season by beating Santa Ana, 4-0, in an Orange Empire Conference match on the road.

IVC had a record of 11-7-2 overall last season.

The 4-0 win on Tuesday improved IVC's record to 11-3-3 this year with four matches still remaining in the regular season.

The triumph also moved the team's conference mark to 8-3-1, which kept Irvine Valley by itself in third place in the conference standings.

IVC, which is ranked No. 10 in Southern California, remained just two points behind Cypress for second place.

Irvine Valley used a flurry of first-half goals to defeat Santa Ana, which saw its record drop to 2-10-3 overall and 1-7-3 in conference.

"It was a great first half," IVC coach Joe Supe said. "We came out strong and dominated that opening half. I thought Rosa (Soto Aleman) was very aggressive and forced the action and Marissa (Perez) was involved in almost all of our goals.

"The team was ready to play."

Irvine Valley's scoring began in the 20th minute with a goal by freshman midfielder Berenice Pacheco.

Soto Aleman then scored in the 29th minute to give Irvine Valley a 2-0 lead.

Freshman forward Crystal Lefebvre added a goal in the 37th minute off an assist from Pacheco to make it a 3-0 game.

And freshman Evelyn Lucatero, one of the stars of the IVC defense, moved up and scored after a loose ball on a corner kick in the 42nd minute to cap the scoring for Irvine Valley.

Cristina Lizarraga made six saves for the Dons in goal while freshmen keepers Yesenia Pulido and Herminia Verduzco combined in goal for Irvine Valley's shutout.

Pulido made the Lasers' lone save of the match.

The shutout was Irvine Valley's second straight and 10th of the season.

The Lasers play again on Friday, hosting Orange Coast at 3 p.m.
