Women's soccer team can't finish chances at Cypress

Irvine Valley's women's soccer team ran into a tough Cypress squad on Tuesday afternoon and fell, 3-0, in an Orange Empire Conference match on the road.

The defeat dropped Irvine Valley's record to 6-2-3 overall and 3-2-2 in conference.

Cypress improved to 8-0-3 overall and 5-0-2 in conference.

It was Cypress' sixth straight shutout and eighth of the season.

"It was that kind of day," IVC coach Joe Supe said. "I actually thought we played pretty well in the first half and had some momentum at times, but we just couldn't get shots off.

"We didn't attack enough. There wasn't enough finishing."

Cypress scored its first goal in the 17th minute as a ball from Jenny Marin was headed in by Layla Silva.

Marin added a second assist in the 72nd minute, connecting with Liz Gutierrez.

Marin scored a goal in the 83rd minute off a corner kick.

"Two of their goals came off corner kicks," Supe said. "We have to do a better job of defending those set pieces."

Freshman keeper Yesenia Pulido made four saves in goal for the Lasers.

Irvine Valley will get back after it on Friday when it hosts district rival Saddleback for a 3 p.m. match.
