Golfer Kylie Sok takes second at regionals, qualifies for state

Irvine Valley women's freshman golfer Kylie Sok is headed to the California Community College Athletic Association State Championship in Morro Bay this weekend.

Sok finished tied for second individually at the two-day Southern California Regionals, which wrapped up on Monday afternoon at the Temecula Creek Inn Golf Resort.

Sok finished with a standout round of 2 over par 74 on the final day on Monday. She ended up with a score of 156 overall.

Sok was just four strokes behind medalist Kalyee Jeon from Fullerton (75-77), who came in at 152.

As a team, Irvine Valley just missed moving on to the state event.

The top four teams advanced. IVC was in a tie for fourth place after the first day on Sunday at Temecula Creek.

But the Lasers ended up finishing sixth overall on Monday, coming in with a team score of 713.

Santa Barbara City won the regional at 661 with Cuyamaca second at 662, Canyons third at 696 and Moorpark as the fourth and final team at 706.

Saddleback was fifth out of the 10 teams at 709.

Irvine Valley freshman Vera Yuan scored 177 (86-91), sophomore Akie Sannomiya carded 188 (98-90) and sophomore Esther Kim came in at 192 (90-102).

Play at the state championship starts on Sunday the event finishing up next Monday.
