Women's golf team takes second place at OEC Championship

The Irvine Valley women's golf team finished second at the two-day Orange Empire Conference Championship that finished up on Wednesday at Los Serranos Country Club in Chino Hills.

Saddleback won the event and title, finishing with a record of 8-0 for the championships and ending with a record of 31-1 in all conference action.

The Gauchos had a two-day score of 679. Irvine Valley finished second at 696, while Fullerton edged Mt. SAC for third (741-743).

Irvine Valley went 6-2 over the two days and ended with a record of 21-10.

Irvine Valley was led by freshman Vera Yuan, who finished up on Wednesday with a score of 78 on the Par 72 North Course at Los Serranos. She shot 83 on Monday on the South Course for a two-day total of 161.

Yuan's two-day total left her just two strokes behind Saddleback's Brittney Do for OEC Championship medalist.

Sophomore Akie Sannomiya was the most improved Laser, ending up with scores of 91 and 85.

Freshman Kylie Sok scored in the low 80's on both days, finishing with a two-day total of 165.

And Irvine Valley sophomore Esther Kim came in at 194 for IVC.

Three of the four members of the Irvine Valley team earned all-conference honors.

Sok and Yuan finished second and fourth, respectively, in conference scoring and were named first team all-conference. Sannomiya earned a spot on the second team.

Irvine Valley moves on to the Southern California Regionals on Sunday and Monday at the Temecula Creek Inn-Golf Resort.

Saddleback, Irvine Valley, and Fullerton are headed to the regional. And Mt. SAC will send three individuals to the regional.
