Women's golf team splits in OEC match at Arroyo Trabuco

Freshman Vera Yuan was the medalist for Irvine Valley in an Orange Empire Conference match hosted by Saddleback at the Arroyo Trabuco Golf Course on Wednesday.

The Lasers took third in the conference match with a record of 2-2. Saddleback was first at 4-0 and Fullerton came in second at 3-1.

Saddleback earned at least a share of the conference title with the 4-0 record on its home course. The Gauchos had a team score of 338. Fullerton finished at 362, IVC was right behind at 368 and Mt. SAC posted a score of 392.

Saddleback now has 23 wins for the season while Irvine Valley has 15 wins and both Fullerton and Mt. San Antonio each have 10 wins. Only next week's Orange Empire Conference championship remains, with eight wins available for the team which wins that two-day, 36-hole event being played Monday and Wednesday at the Los Serranos Country Club in Chino Hills.

Yuan shot a score of 84 to lead the way for the Lasers at Arroyo Trabuco.

Freshman Kylie Sok had her first score of the season not in the 70's for the Lasers. She shot 86 on the day and was hurt by a triple bogey on the par-three 14th hole.

Sophomore Akie Sannomiya finished at 96 and sophomore Esther Kim shot 102 to round out the Lasers' scoring on the day.

Fullerton's Kaylee Jeon carded a 4-over-par 76 to win individual medalist honors while Saddleback's Brittney Do was the runner-up at 80 and teammate Deanna Pagaduan came through with an 81.

Saddleback's Do has a three stroke lead over Sok and seven stroke lead over Fullerton's Jeon for the conference's Player of the Year honor, which equates to the player with the lowest season-long scoring average.

Do is averaging 76.6 strokes per round with Sok at 77.2 and Jeon at 78.0.
