Esquivel shines again for women's golf team in match at Oak Creek

Irvine Valley's women's golf team hosted the rest of the Orange Empire Conference in a match on Wednesday at Oak Creek Golf Club.

The Lasers had two of the top three individual finishers on the day, including freshman Araceli Esquivel, who was the medalist.

IVC also earned three victories, finishing with a four-player team score of 345.

Mt. SAC went undefeated with a score of 342. Saddleback, which came into the match in first place in the conference, took third with 349.

Orange Coast was next at 363 and Fullerton came in fifth at 376.

Irvine Valley remained in second in the conference standings, but moved a match closer to Saddleback for first. Saddleback now has a record of 13-3 with IVC at 12-4.

Esquivel had 13 pars and five bogeys for an individual score of 76. It was her second medalist honor in a conference match. She currently leads the conference in scoring, averaging 77.3 strokes a match.

McKenzie Purcell of Saddleback was next at 377.

Irvine Valley sophomore Marisa Bhanubandh took third, carding 80.

Bhanubandh had two birdies, eight pars, seven birdies and one quadruple bogey.

Irvine Valley's third place was freshman Akie Sannomiya, who finished at 94 with one birdie, one par, 11 bogeys, three double bogeys, one triple bogey and one quadruple bogey.

Freshman Victoria Vasko completed Irvine Valley's scoring with a round of 95. She had four pars, eight bogeys, four double bogeys and a 7 over par score on the 10th hole.

Sophomore Alexis McLachlan shot 102 and freshman Esther Kim came in at 121 for IVC.

Irvine Valley plays again on Monday in a conference match at Royal Vista.
