Esquivel ties for third, women's golf team is ninth at Morro Bay

Irvine Valley's women's golf team finished ninth and freshman Araceli Esquivel ended tied for third for the Lasers individually at the North-South Invitational at Morro Bay Golf Club.

The two-day event took place on Sunday and Monday. Morro Bay is the course that the state championships will be held on later this season.

Esquivel shot rounds of 75 and 74 on the par-72 Morro Bay course for a total of 149. She tied with Carolin Chang of Santa Barbara City. Esquivel was named to the all-tournament team.

Canada's Aman Sangha was the medalist at 140 and Nao Bando of Sierra took second at 145.

Santa Barbara City won the team event, finishing with a two-day total of 629. Sierra also came in at 629, but Santa Barbara City won based on a fifth player's score.

Modesto was third at 667, Fresno City placed fourth at 692, Reedley was fifth at 700, Sacramento City took sixth at 727, Citrus placed seventh at 740 and College of the Desert was eighth at 749.

Irvine Valley's two-day score was 764. The Lasers shot 384 on the first day and 380 on the second day.

Behind Esquivel, sophomore Marisa Bhanubandh shot 162 (79 and 83), Alexis McLachlan carded 207 (106 and 101) and Esther Kim came in at 246 (124 and 122).

IVC plays again on Wednesday, Oct. 12 with an Orange Empire Conference match at Alta Vista at 12:30 p.m.
