Women's golf team finishes third in match at Sun Lakes

Sophomore Rebecca Peng paced the Irvine Valley women's golf team to a record of 5-3 in the latest Orange Empire Conference match, which was held Monday at Sun Lakes Golf Course in Banning.

The course will also be the site of the Orange Empire Conference Championships in two weeks.

Irvine Valley finished with a team score of 364 in the nine-team conference event.

Mt. San Antonio won the match and had a perfect score of 8-0 with a team score of 346.

Mt. SAC just edged College of the Desert (348) and Palomar (350) for first place.

Irvine Valley was 27 strokes better than Orange Coast (391) for fourth place.

IVC remained in third place in the overall team standings. Mt. SAC leads with a record of 69-3, Desert is second at 60-12 and Irvine Valley sits in third at 54-18.

Peng had seven pars and two bogeys to score 2 over par on the front nine of the Sun Lakes course. She finished with three pars, four bogeys, one double bogey and one triple bogey over the closing nine holes to post a score of 83 on the par 72 course. It was the third-best individual score of the day.

Sarah Juelch of Mt. SAC was the medalist at 77 and Fumika Matsumoto of Desert was second at 78.

Sophomore Stuti Mandal followed with the Irvine Valley's second-best score of 88.

The teams will play their final conference match of the year on Wednesday at Arroyo Trabuco. The match is hosted by Saddleback. The conference championship will take place Oct. 26 and 28 at Sun Lakes.
