Co-medalists Dang and Meredith pace women's golf team

Irvine Valley's women's golf team got standout performances from its two sophomore captains to capture another seven wins in an Orange Empire Conference match on Wednesday.

Cindy Dang and Leleaga Meredith each shot par scores of 72 at Twin Oaks Golf Course to lead Irvine Valley to a team score of 321 and a record of 7-1.

Irvine Valley was just seven shots in back of undefeated College of the Desert in the match.

The Lasers were 17 shots better than third-place Palomar.

The seven wins against one loss improved Irvine Valley's record to 57-15 in conference. It placed the Lasers six victories ahead of Fullerton for second place in the standings.

Dang used five birdies, five bogeys and eight pars for her score of 72.

She sizzled on the back nine of the course with four birdies and two bogeys.

For Meredith, it was the second time she has been the medalist in a conference match this week.

She had back-to-back scores of 72.

Meredith, who finished third in the state individually last season, used two birdies to offset two bogeys with the rest pars at Twin Oaks.

Freshman Rebecca Peng posted a score of 80 to add to IVC's stellar day.

She had two birdies, 10 pars, two bogeys and four double bogeys in her round of 80.

Freshman Rachel Watson's score of 97 was used for the team score of 321.

Freshman Stuti Mandal posted 100 and freshman Liliana Gutierrez scored 102 to round out the day for the Lasers.

"Each week, the team continues to improve," IVC coach Ben Burnett said. "Freshmen, Liliana, Rachel and Stuti continue to work to improve with the goal to produce a competition score in the high 80's at the Southern California Regional Championships and state finals.
