Women's golf team still second in conference after home match

Irvine Valley's women's golf team played solidly and picked up five wins on Wednesday in its lone Orange Empire Conference home match of the season at Oak Creek.

The Lasers finished with a record of 5-3 and a team score of 349 in the match.

College of the Desert went 8-0 after shooting 332. Desert improved its record to 24-0 through three conference events.

Irvine Valley now sits at 19-5.

Irvine Valley finished just behind Saddleback, who went 7-1 with a score of 345, and Fullerton, who went 6-2 after carding 347 in the contest.

Fullerton is third in the conference standings at 17-7 and Mt. San Antonio, Palomar and Saddleback are next at 13-11.

Irvine Valley beat Palomar (352), Mt. SAC (363), Orange Coast (380), Cuyamaca (401) and Mt. San Jacinto (no score) in the match.

The Lasers were led by sophomores Leleaga Meredith and Cindy Dang, who each shot 10 over par 81 at Oak Creek.

Meredith and Dang tied for the third-best score of the day.

Irvine Valley freshman Rebecca Peng shot 88 and freshman Liliana Gutierrez came in at 99 to round out IVC's four-player team score. Freshman Rachel Watson was next at 102 for the Lasers.

Irvine Valley plays again next Wednesday in a conference match at Diamond Bar. The match will be hosted by Fullerton.
