Women's golf team sixth at South Coast event

Irvine Valley's women's golf team placed sixth at the two-day 2013 South Coast Women's Golf Tournament, which finished up on Monday in Ventura.

Palomar won the 12-team event with a team score of 612.

Santa Barbara City was next at 626, followed by Fullerton at 647, College of the Desert at 652, Saddleback at 663 and Irvine Valley at 676.

"I am pleased with the attitude and the effort that this team is making," IVC Coach Ben Burnett said.

The tournament was played at two different sites. Sunday's round was at Buena Ventura and Monday was at Olivas Links.

Irvine Valley shot team scores of 338 on both days. IVC had the fourth-best round of the second day, finishing two strokes behind Fullerton and College of the Desert at the tougher Olivas Links course.

Freshman Leleaga Meredith led Irvine Valley with a two-day score 148 (69-79).

Meredith tied for third and was just one shot away from medalist honors.

Meredith was tied for the lead after the first day of action with her 1 under par score of 69 at Buena Ventura.

Meredith ended up being named to the all-tournament team.

Freshman Cindy Dang was next for IVC at 155 (76-79) with freshman Nayoung Kim at 169 (89-80). Kim's final round was her second score of 80 so far this season.

Dang had the seventh best individual score for the tournament.

Irvine Valley's fourth score was turned in by freshman Kimberly Richardson at 204 (104-100).​
