Women's basketball team moves to 4-0 with home victory

The Irvine Valley women's basketball team is on roll to begin the 2023-24 season.

After winning three games to capture the Riverside EOS Tournament last weekend, the Lasers defeated Rio Hondo, 66-49, in its first home game of the year on Wednesday.

The game was part of the El Camino Crossover event.

IVC improved its record to 4-0 overall, while Rio Hondo fell to 1-7.

The Lasers had three players score in double figures, led by sophomore guard Emily Freeman with 12 points and four assists and three steals, sophomore wing Christen Ziska with 12 points and six rebounds and freshman guard Moka Saiki with 11 points and four assists.

Irvine Valley also received solid contributions from sophomore post player Makena Tomlinson with 10 points and six rebounds, freshman guard Haruka Mikuma with six points and sophomore forward Ella Will with five points and five steals.

The Lasers also made 10 three-pointers in the game and recorded 17 assists on 24 made baskets and came up with 16 steals as a team in the contest.

Rio Hondo was paced by Miranda Morales, who had 20 points, six rebounds and three assists.

Irvine Valley plays again on Friay, traveling to Citrus for a 3 p.m. to continue the El Camino Crossover.
