Women's basketball team seeded eighth in SoCal Playoffs

The Irvine Valley women's basketball team is once again in the Southern California Regional Playoffs.

And the Lasers earned a bye in the opening round by being seeded in the top eighth.

Irvine Valley was given the eighth seed.

The Lasers finshed the regular season with a record of 20-8 overall under first-year head coach Jason Garey.

IVC also took third in the Orange Empire Conference with a record of 8-4.

Irvine Valley will host either No. 9 Mt. San Jacinto or No. 24 Santa Barbara City in the second round on Saturday night at 7 p.m. 

Mt. San Jacinto and Santa Barbara City play on Wednesday night.

Irvine Valley won four of its final five games of the regular season, including beating Fullerton, 63-47, last Thursday night at home.

In that contest, sophomore guard Kennedy Pucci fhad a team-high 20 points and added six rebounds and three assists.

Freshman guard Trasara Alexander chipped in 16 points and 12 rebounds and freshman guard Emily Freeman had 11 points in the win.

Sophomore guard Kaila Truby contributed four points, nine rebounds, five assists and four steals.

On the season, Alexander is averaging 15.5 points, 9.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.2 steals per game.

Pucci averages 9.7 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.2 steals, Freeman is averaging 8.8 points and shooting 34.9 percent from three-point range and Truby averages 4.7 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.2 steals per game.
