Women's basketball team wins by 43 over Golden West

After hanging right with the No. 2 team in the state in its Orange Empire Conference opener on Wednesday, the Irvine Valley women's basketball team crushed Golden West, 84-41, Friday night at home.

Irvine Valley fell to Orange Coast, 57-53, at home Wednesday.

Friday was a different story.

The Lasers led Golden West 16-8, after the first quarter and out-scored the Rustlers, 25-7, in the second period to take a 41-15 advantage into the break.

Irvine Valley cruised from there. The Lasers won the second half, 43-26.

Irvine Valley shot 56.6 percent from the field (30 of 53) overall in the game. IVC also went 15 of 20 from the free throw line in the contest.

The Lasers out-rebounded Golden West, 40-28, and had 20 assists on 30 made baskets.

Freshman guard Trasara Alexander had a huge night with 27 points, 10 rebounds and two steals. She was one of four IVC players in double figures scoring.

Sophomore guard Kaila Truby added 12 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals, freshman guard Christen Ziska had 11 points and sophomore guard Kennedy Pucci chipped in 10 points, five rebounds and four assists.

Irvine Valley plays again next Wednesday, traveling to Santa Ana at 6 p.m.
