Women's basketball team starts fast, picks up road win

The Irvine Valley women's basketball team improved its record to 4-1 on the season with a 59-43 win at El Camino on Friday night.

The Lasers out-scored El Camino, 19-9, in the opening quarter on its way to the win.

Sophomore guard Paola Rao led three Laser players in double figures with 16 points. She also finished with nine rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks.

Sophomore guard Jessica Suruor added 14 points and freshman forward Sarah Matossian had 12 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and three steals for Irvine Valley.

IVC also got eight points and four rebounds from sophomore guard Morgan Higgins.

Irvine Valley led, 27-19, at the half and then put the game away in the third quarter by out-scoring El Camino, 16-8.

The Lasers out-rebounded the Warriors, 44-34, and helped force 27 El Camino turnovers.

El Camino's record went to 2-4 overall.

Irvine Valley plays again next Tuesday, traveling to LA Valley for a 5 p.m. contest
