Standout guard Megan Herrera headed to Ottawa University

Irvine Valley freshman guard Megan Herrera will be continuing her career at Ottawa University in Arizona. She will join two former IVC players with the Spirit.

Herrera helped Irvine Valley win its second straight Orange Empire Conference title this past season. The team also reached a California Community College Athletic Association South regional playoff final.

The Lasers ended with a record of 23-6 overall and 12-2 in conference for 2018-19.

Herrera played in all 29 games and started 23 of them.

She averaged 10.7 points per game, which ranked fourth on the team. Herrera also averaged 4.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game.

She was second on the team in assists and first in steals.

Herrera scored in double figures in 15 games with a season-high 29 points coming in Irvine Valley's big win over Cypress at home on Feb. 22.

Her performance against Cypress was one of the best of the season for IVC.

The game was for the Orange Empire Conference title. Herrera shot 10 of 22 from the field and 5 of 11 from three-point range to help Irvine Valley to a 89-64 victory.

She is headed to an Ottawa program that included former Irvine Valley players Elizabeth Garcia and Jenna Rodriguez. Garcia and Rodriguez helped Ottawa finish with a record of 10-15 overall and 4-14 in the Golden State Athletic Conference.
