Women's basketball team never trails in win at Riverside

Irvine Valley's women's basketball team was up for its biggest test so far in Orange Empire Conference play.

The Lasers went to Riverside and beat the Tigers, 81-68, on Friday night to stay unbeaten in conference action.

Irvine Valley never trailed in the game and was up by as many as 23 points in the fourth quarter.

The Lasers, ranked No. 14 in the state, improved their record to 14-3 overall and 4-0 in conference action. IVC is tied for first in the conference with Cypress.

Riverside's record fell to 6-9 overall and 2-2 in conference.

IVC got a big night from freshman guard Anai Washington.

She finished with 29 points and five rebounds.

Freshman center Zoe Stachowski added 14 points and 15 rebounds, sophomore guard Lexi Vail ended with 12 points and five rebounds and freshman forward Renny Cribbin contributed 10 points and seven rebounds off the bench for the Lasers.

Irvine Valley shot 45.6 percent from the field and helped hold Riverside to 28.4 percent.

The Lasers also out-scored Riverside in the paint, 40-22, in the contest.

Irvine Valley will play again next Wednesday at home, hosting Copper Mountain in a conference game at 6 p.m.
