Women's basketball team beats San Diego City to go to 10-3

Irvine Valley's women's basketball team finished off non-conference play with a 83-57 win at San Diego City on Friday night.

The Lasers, who are ranked No. 19 in the state and 11th in Southern California, blew the game open in the second quarter, out-scoring the Knights, 21-6, in the period and never looked back.

Irvine Valley took a 40-23 lead into halftime and increased its advantage to23 points heading into the fourth quarter.

The Lasers shot 48.3 percent (29 of 60) from the field and out-rebounded the Knights, 39-28, in the win.

Freshman guard Anai Washington led the way with 19 points. She was 8 of 11 from the field.

Sophomore guard Lexi Vail added 13 points, six rebounds and 12 assists and freshman guard Megan Herrera had 13 points and four steals for the Lasers.

Freshman guard Emma Vasquez and sophomore forward Natasha Dillon each chipped in seven points off the bench.

Irvine Valley improved its record to 10-3 overall, while San Diego City fell to 6-8.

The Lasers play again next Wednesday, opening up Orange Empire Conference play against Orange Coast at home at 7 p.m.
