Women's basketball team stays perfect in OEC play with big win

Irvine Valley's women's basketball team stayed perfect in Orange Empire Conference play with an easy 98-33 win over Copper Mountain at home on Friday night.

The Lasers, ranked No. 7 in the state, improved their record to 21-3 overall and 10-0 in conference.

Irvine Valley, playing on Coaches vs. Cancer night, scored the first 14 points of the game and never looked back.

The Lasers led, 26-6, at halftime and, 54-14, at the end of the first half.

Irvine Valley got a triple-double from standout sophomore forward Kasey Smit. She finished with 21 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists. Smit also added six blocks and five steals in 25 minutes of action.

Four players scored in double figures for IVC and six players had at least seven points in the contest.

Sophomore guard Mary Dishoian was the team's high scorer with 25 points. She also had 11 rebounds and seven assists.

Freshman guard Lexi Vail finished with 12 points, five rebounds and seven assists and freshman guard Cydnie Danan ended with 10 points for IVC.

Freshman guard Jessica Quirarte chipped in eight points and freshman forward Ryane Bradbury contributed seven points and five rebounds in the win.

Copper Mountain (0-19, 0-10) was paced by Tusitusia Brown, who had 16 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks.

Irvine Valley plays again next Wednesday in a conference game at Santa Ana at 5 p.m.
