Women's basketball team looks for 3-0 start in OEC Friday night

The Irvine Valley women's basketball will try to stay hot on Friday night when it hosts Santa Ana in an Orange Empire Conference game at 7 p.m.

IVC has a record of 13-3 overall and is 3-0 in conference.

The Lasers are ranked No. 9 in the state and fourth in Southern California.

Irvine Valley had a game for the record books on Wednesday night at Copper Mountain.

The Lasers broke program marks for most points scored in a game and largest margin of victory in a 115-29 Orange Empire Conference win.

Irvine Valley's 115 points broke the 1999 team's record of 108 points against Citrus.

And the 86-point margin of victory broke the 70-point margin that the 1996 team had in its win Pierce.

Six players scored in double figures for the Lasers, who scored their fifth win in a row.

Sophomore forward Kasey Smit led the way with 23 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists and six steals.

Sophomore forward Kiara Warren added 20 points, freshman guard Cydnie Danan chipped in 14 points and three steals and sophomore guard Mary Dishoian had 13 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Freshman forward Natasha Dillon contributed 13 points and freshman forward Ryane Bradbury ended with 10 points and 15 rebounds.

On the season, Smit averages 14.9 points, 11.8 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 2.4 steals and 2.1 blocks per game to pace the Lasers.

Warren averages 10.6 points and 5.9 rebounds, freshman guard Lexi Vail averages 9.9 points and 3.5 assists, sophomore guard Elizabeth Garcia is averaging 9.1 points and 3.5 assists and Danan averages 8.0 points and 3.3 assists per game for Irvine Valley.

Santa Ana has a record of 7-8 overall and 2-1 in the OEC.

The Dons defeated Saddleback, 62-56, on Wednesday night at home.

Alexis Casillas led Santa Ana with 21 points, 12 rebounds and three assists.

Cheryl Caldera also finished with 21 points for the Dons. She chipped in seven rebounds.

And Alekzandra Peggins Peggins came off the bench with six points and 12 rebounds in 23 minutes.

On the season, Casillas is averaging 14.7 points, 12.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.3 steals per game.

Caldera averages 12.3 points and 6.1 rebounds, Alexis Smith averages 8.3 points Cailey Vitug is averaging 7.9 points and 4.4 assists.
