Irvine Valley's women's basketball team cruised to its third straight win, dominating district rival Saddleback, 91-47, in an Orange Empire Conference game at home on Wednesday night.
The Lasers, ranked No. 9 in the state and fourth in Southern California in the latest coaches poll, improved their record to 12-3 on the year.
Saddleback had its record fall to 3-11 overall.
The Gauchos scored the first points of the game, a three-pointer by Nagina Hamid, but it was all Irvine Valley after that.
The Lasers scored the next eight points, getting a three-pointer from freshman guard Cydnie Danan, a three-point play by sophomore forward Kasey Smit and layup by Smit, and never looked back.
Irvine Valley held a 19-7 advantage at the end of the first quarter and was ahead, 44-19, by halftime.
IVC led by as many as 47 points in the fourth quarter.
The Lasers shot an impressive 62.1 percent (18 of 29) as a team from the field in the first half to take the big lead and ended up shooting 58.3 percent (35 of 60) for the game.
IVC also out-rebounded Saddleback, 49-31, and finished with 24 assists on 35 made baskets.
Irvine Valley finished with 56 points in the paint on the night.
Sophomore forward Kasey Smit had another very productive game. She paced IVC with 24 points (on 11 of 14 shooting), 10 rebounds, five assists and four blocks.
Sophomore forward Kiara Warren contributed 15 points, seven rebounds and three assists, sophomore forward Jenna Rodriguez had 13 points and six rebounds off the bench and sophomore guard Elizabeth Garcia chipped in 11 points, four assists and two steals.
Freshman guard Bryanna Espiritu had eight points and five rebounds and freshman guard Lexi Vail added seven points, six assists and two steals for IVC.
Saddleback, which shot just 26.2 percent as a team, got 16 points and two steals from Hamid. Jazmine Langford ended with nine points and five rebounds and Bailey Dunn had eight rebounds and two blocks for the Gauchos.
Irvine Valley plays again on Friday, hosting Fullerton in a conference game at 6 p.m.
