Irvine Valley's women's basketball team scored one of its best wins of the season so far in its home opener on Wednesday night.
The Lasers had five players score in double figures in a 68-51 win over Glendale.
Irvine Valley, ranked No. 12 in Southern California in the CCCWBCA Preseason Poll, improved its record to 5-2 overall.
Glendale slipped to 5-3 overall. The Vaqueros were coming off winning the Southwest Tournament on Nov. 19.
The Lasers helped force 26 Glendale turnovers and scored 31 points off of those turnovers in the win.
Irvine Valley also shot 43.3 percent (26 of 60) from the field and helped limit Glendale to 35.8 percent (19 of 53) shooting.
And Glendale shot just 25.8 percent (8 of 31) in the second half when Irvine Valley took control.
The Lasers led, 33-29, at the half and then out-scored Glendale, 14-10, in the third quarter to take a 47-39 lead going into the final period.
Up, 49-43, the Lasers went on a 8-0 run to put the game out of reach.
A steal and layup by freshman guard Lexi Vail, a jumper by sophomore Kasey Smit off an assist by freshman guard Elizabeth Garcia and then a layup by Vail off a pass from freshman guard Jessica Quirarte gave Irvine Valley a 57-43 with 8:04 to play.
Irvine Valley led by as many as 19 points in the game before winning, 68-51.
Vail led the way with 19 points, three rebounds and three steals. She had 17 points in the second half.
Garcia contributed 15 points (all in the first half) to go along with five rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Smit had 13 points, seven rebounds, two assists and three blocks, sophomore forward Kiara Warren, who was in foul trouble early, ended up with 11 points, seven rebounds, two assists and five steals, and freshman guard Cydnie Danan had 10 points and four assists.
Glendale got 10 points and four rebounds from Marlene Salazar, eight points from Paula Galicia and seven points each from Cheyenne Jankulovski, Sylvia Vartazarian and Deanna Gordillo in the defeat.
Irvine Valley plays again on Friday, hosting El Camino at 5 p.m.
