Women's basketball team takes third place in Pasadena

Irvine Valley's women's basketball team dominated LA Southwest, 88-39, to win the third-place game on Saturday at the Pasadena City College President's Roundball Classic.

The Lasers went 2-1 in the tournament.

Irvine Valley went up, 21-9, after the first quarter and never looked back.

IVC, ranked 12th in California in the preseason California Community College Women's Basketball Coaches Association Poll was up, 44-22 , at the half and out-scored LA Southwest, 43-17, in the second half.

Sophomore guard Mary Dishoian led the way with 21 points and nine rebounds.

Freshman guard Lexi Vail and sophomore guard Elizabeth Garcia each chipped in 13 points. Garcia also had three rebounds and six assists.

Sophomore forward Kasey Smit finished with seven points, 13 rebounds, seven assists and three steals. She was named to the all-tournament team.

Freshman guard Bryanna Espiritu added eight points, four rebounds and four assists and sophomore forward Jenna Rodriguez had eight points and three rebounds off the bench for the Lasers.

Irvine Valley fell in a tough semifinal game on Friday night to Sequoias, 57-54.

Sequoias was ranked fourth in CCCWBCA North Region Preseason Poll.

Garcia had 16 points and four rebounds to pace the Lasers. Smith contributed 11 points, eight rebounds and four steals and sophomore forward Kiara Warren had nine points for IVC.

Irvine Valley plays again in the Lady Gaucho Classic this Thursday at Saddleback. IVC opens against Mt. San Jacinto on Thursday at 3 p.m.

Mt. San Jacinto is ranked No. 2 in Southern California.
