Women's basketball team looks to bounce back Wednesday night

Irvine Valley's women's basketball team will look to bounce back from its first Orange Empire Conference loss when it hosts Fullerton on Wednesday night at home at 5 p.m.

IVC has a record of 9-9 overall and is 1-1 in conference.

The Lasers started conference with a solid 60-54 win over Santa Ana last Wednesday night at home.

Sophomore guard Aaleah Brown led the way with 19 points, freshman guard Mary Dishoian added 12 points, sophomore forward Kydell Pearson finished with nine points and eight rebounds and freshman guard Serena Saba contributed 12 assists in the win.

But the Lasers had a tough time at Saddleback on Friday, falling, 62-48.

IVC shot just 38.8 percent from the field as a team and committed 24 turnovers.

Pearson ended up with 22 points and five rebounds for IVC.

On the season, Pearson is averaging 12.9 points and 7.4 rebounds, Brown averages 11.7 points, freshman forward Kiara Warren is averaging 8.7 points and 7.9 rebounds, Saba averages 8.0 points and 4.0 assists and freshman guard Elizabeth Garcia is averaging 7.8 points and 4.1 assists.

IVC plays at Cypress on Friday at 5 p.m.

Fullerton comes into Wednesday night's contest at IVC with a record of 8-10 overall and 0-2 in conference.

The Hornets fell to Cypress, 73-54, and then to Santa Ana, 64-58, in games last week.

Fullerton held a two-point lead going into the final quarter on the road at Santa Ana on Friday, but the Dons out-scored the Hornets, 26-18, in the final period.

Tristian Johns had 12 points and Tianna Buford and Racquel Licea each added 11 points for the Hornets. Buford also had 13 rebounds.

Melody Thomsen chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds for Fullerton.

On the year, Johns is averaging 11.6 points and 6.2 rebounds, Monica Hanna averages 10.7 points and 8.7 rebounds, Buford averages 9.7 points and 8.6 rebounds, Nancy De La Cruz averages 7.8 points and Thomson averages 6.1 points and 3.8 assists.
