Women's basketball team has four players named all-conference

Four Irvine Valley women's basketball players were chosen to all-Orange Empire Conference teams at the recent coaches meeting.

Sophomore guards Tara Casey and Jordan Coleman were each picked first team and freshman forward Kasey Smit and sophomore forward Morgan Bryant were each selected to the second team.

The four players helped IVC finish a close second in the conference standings, end the regular season with a record of 21-7 and reach the Southern California Regional Playoffs.

IVC was seeded fourth in the playoffs and opened with a convincing 64-49 victory over Cerritos at home last Friday night.

For Casey and Coleman, it is their second straight year being named all-conference.

Casey averaged 10.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.6 steals a game and made a team-high 53 three-pointers through the end of the regular season.

She averaged 11.9 points, 5.4 points, 2.3 assists and 1.8 steals per game in conference play.

Coleman averaged 8.7 points, 3.6 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game through the regular season and 6.9 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.9 steals per game in conference.

Smit averaged 9.5 points and 7.4 rebounds game overall through the regular season and 10.9 points and 8.2 rebounds in conference action.

And Bryant averaged 7.8 points and 6.3 rebounds per game during the regular season and 8.8 points 5.9 rebounds in conference.

Irvine Valley plays again on Wednesday, taking on fifth-seeded Long Beach City in a third-round Southern California Regional Playoff game at Long Beach.
