Irvine Valley sophomore women's basketball players Karli Kato and Erika Pagkalinawan signed with the University of La Verne last week.

Kato and Pagkalinawan, both guards, helped Irvine Valley to one of its best-ever seasons. The Lasers finished with 27-4 record overall and made a trip to the Southern California Playoffs Regional Final.

IVC was one of the final eight teams in the state playoffs.

Kato played in all 31 games and started 19 contests. She averaged 6.4 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game for the Lasers.

She scored in double figures in four games with a season-high of 21 points in a win over Chaffey last December.

Kato had at least seven points in 17 contests. Kato also had a season-high five assists in a win over Orange Coast in January.

Pagkalinawan averaged 1.1 points and 1.0 assists in 30 games for IVC.

She scored a season-best six points and had a season-high seven assists in IVC's 72-33 win over Orange Coast at home in late January. Pagkalinawan also had two assists in that contest.

The duo is headed to a La Verne program that finished with a record 10-15 last season and was 7-9 in its conference.
