Women's basketball team ranked No. 6 in the state

Irvine Valley's women's basketball team was ranked tied for No. 6 in the state in the 2014-15 CCCWBCA State Poll that was released earlier this week.

The Lasers were ranked fifth in the state the last time the poll came in out mid-December.

Irvine Valley, which improved its record to 14-3 overall after a 11-point win at Orange Coast on Wednesday night, sits only behind Mt. San Antonio, College of the Sequoias, Diablo Valley, East Los Angeles, Palomar in the poll.

Mt. SAC is the only undefeated team in the state at 17-0.

The Lasers are tied with Chabot at sixth.

All three of Irvine Valley's losses have come to teams in the top five of the poll (Sequoias, East Los Angeles and Palomar).

Irvine Valley has wins over three other teams ranked in the top 20 of the poll (No. 8 El Camino, No. 13 Fullerton and No. 18 Pasadena City).

The Lasers are No. 4 in the South Region Poll, trailing only Mt. San Antonio, East Los Angeles and Palomar.

Four Orange Empire Conference teams are ranked in the top 15 of the South Region poll. Irvine Valley is third, Fullerton is No. 8, Cypress is No. 9 and Riverside is No. 12.

Irvine Valley has a bye on Friday from conference action. It plays at Saddleback next Wednesday at 5 p.m. and then hosts Riverside on Friday, Jan. 16 at 5 p.m.
