Eva Lee and Nate Ngo represent Irvine Valley at the Olympics

Former state champion women's badminton player Eva Lee and current women's and men's volleyball coach Nate Ngo will be representing Irvine Valley in the upcoming 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Lee, who is 29 years old, won singles and doubles state titles in 2006 for Irvine Valley.

She is participating in women's doubles in badminton play with Paula Lynn Obanana for the United States.

She competes in Group Play Stage on Aug. 11-13.

Lee was a part of the Olympics for the United States in 2008, playing in singles and women's doubles.

This year, she won the gold at the Austrian Open in doubles and a silver at the Peru International in women's singles. She also took silver in women's doubles at the Tahiti International.

In 2015, Lee won the gold at the XVII Pan Am Games in Toronto in doubles and took a bronze at the Yonex Brazil Open in doubles.

Ngo joined USA Volleyball in February of 2015 to serve as technical coordinator for the U.S. Men's National Team.

He joined the Irvine Valley women's volleyball staff as an assistant last fall and also helped with the men's team at IVC in the spring.

Ngo will be the interim women's coach for the Lasers this fall, while Tom Pestolesi is on sabbatical. Ngo and Pestolesi will join to coach the IVC men's volleyball team in the spring of 2017.

Ngo has been an assistant at the University of Portland, graduate manager of the University of Nebraska and was also a volunteer assistant at Cal Poly.

He served as technical coordinator for the U.S. Women's Junior National Team in 2013 and 2014 and also for the SVS Post professional club team in Vienna, Austria in 2011

Ngo's duties for the United States men's team include keeping track of statistics using DataVolley and scouting for the team at tournaments.

The United States plays its first game of the Olympics on Aug. 7 against Canada in pool play action.  The squad then plays Italy on Aug. 9 and Brazil on Aug. 11 in pool play matches.
