Women's badminton team completes undefeated regular season

Irvine Valley's women's badminton team wrapped up a perfect regular season with a 16-5 Pacific Coast Athletic Conference win over Grossmont on Friday at home.

Irvine Valley, which had already wrapped up the conference title, won nine of 12 singles matches and four of five doubles contests.

Freshman Cora Tanuwidjaja swept at No. 1 singles, beating Grossmont's top player Jing Mi, 21-19, 21-18, and then Rebekah Leslie, 21-8, 21-6.

Sophomore Peihong Jiang split her two singles matches at the No. 2 spot for the Lasers.

Freshman Stella Shao and sophomore Tracey Nie also split singles matches.

Sophomore Jessey Wang won her No. 5 match, 21-4, 21-4 and that received a default at No. 6 and sophomore Eva Chan won, 21-6, 21-7, and also picked up a default victory.

In doubles, IVC's top team of Tanuwidjaja and Nie won, 21-11, 21-9, and, 21-6, 21-5.

The No. 2 team of Wang and sophomore Bo Ma split matches.

IVC received a default at No. 3 doubles.

Irvine Valley plays in the conference individual singles and doubles finals next Friday. It will be held at Irvine Valley starting at 10 a.m.

The Lasers will then travel to Pasadena City on Wednesday, April 27 for the So. Cal. Team Finals.
