Women's badminton team loses showdown with San Diego City

Irvine Valley's women's badminton team lost in its Pacific Coast Athletic Conference showdown with San Diego City on Friday afternoon at home.

San Diego City came out on top, 14-7.

The two teams were both undefeated heading into the match.

Irvine Valley's record slipped to 2-1 in conference.

The Lasers won seven of 12 singles sets, but couldn't pick up anything in doubles.

IVC's No. 1 player, freshman Jurate Foes, won, 21-10, 21-18, over San Diego City No. 1 Darby Duprat. Foes defeated Thao Nguyen, 21-16, 21-8.

Irvine Valley freshman Deppthi Rao won one of two matches at No. 3 singles and freshman Peihong Jiang also captured one of two sets at the No. 4 position.

Freshman Jessey Wang won both of her matches, earning 21-15, 21-17 and 21-13, 21-15 victories.

And freshman No. 6 player Eva Chen took one of two matches.

Doubles sets were close, but IVC couldn't pull through.

IVC's top team of Foes and Jessey Wang lost both of their matches in three sets. IVC 's team of Karen Wang and Chen also lost in three sets.

Irvine Valley plays again next Friday when it hosts a conference tournament beginning at 10 a.m.
