Women's badminton team shuts out Grossmont

Irvine Valley's women's badminton team stayed unbeaten in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference with a 21-0 win over Grossmont on Wednesday at Grossmont.

The Lasers, who improved their conference record to 2-0, didn't drop a set in the match.

Freshman Jurate Foes, IVC's top player, won her two singles matches by the scores of 21-6, 21-4 and 21-0, 21-4.

Sophomore Karen Wang, won at No. 2 singles, 21-10, 21-13 and 21-11, 21-0, freshman Deepthi Rao came through, 21-11, 21-11 and 21-3, 21-2, at No. 3 singles and freshman Peihong Jiang won 21-7, 21-14 and 21-3, 21-3 at No. 4 singles for the Lasers.

At No. 5 singles, freshman Jessey Wang won 21-7, 21-14 and 21-3, 21-3, and freshman Lushi Luo won 21-16, 21-19 and 21-16, 21-12 for Irvine Valley at No. 6 singles.

In doubles the teams of Foes and Jessey Wang and Rao and Jiang each won in straight sets. Foes and Wang only gave up nine points in their four sets. Wang and freshman Eva Chen won 21-4, 21-1 at No. 3 doubles for Irvine Valley.

The Lasers play again on Friday in a big match. IVC hosts San Diego City at 2 p.m. Both teams are unbeaten and the match should go a long way to determining the top team out of the conference.
