Volleyball players Beymer and Weinert off to Benedictine

Irvine Valley standout men's volleyball players Josh Beymer and Trevor Weinert will be playing at Benedictine University in Mesa, AZ next spring.

The "bash brothers" will continue as a duo for the NAIA school.

Both were named first team all-Orange Empire Conference players this past season after helping IVC to a record of 17-5 overall, a 5-2 mark in the OEC and a trip to the California Community College AThletic Association state semifinals at El Camino.

Beymer, a 6-4 middle blocker, paced the conference in blocks per set at 1.34, had a hitting percentage of .516 and averaged 1.42 kills per set.

He tied for third on the team in kills with 95 and his hitting percentage was tops on the squad.

The former Mission Viejo High player's 141.5 points was third on the squad.

Beymer had nine kills, hit .538 and finished with 10 blocks along with 14.5 points in Irvine Valley's five-set win over El Camino on Feb. 5.

Weinert was second in the conference in blocks per set at 1.00, hit .497 and averaged 1.51 kills per set.

Weinert, a 6-4 middle blocker out of Dana Hills High, had seven kills and seven blocks in a five-set win at Moorpark on Feb. 7 this past season and also recorded nine kills, hit .900 and had three blocks in a conference victory over Fullerton on Apr. 6.

The duo is headed to a Benedictine team that had an impressive record of 22-7 overall this past season, won the California Pacific Conference with a record of 12-0 and reached the NAIA National Championship final before losing to Grand View University in five sets on Apr. 16.

It was the second straight year that Benedictine reached the national final in the NAIA.
