Men's volleyball team takes on OCC in conference tourney final

The Irvine Valley men's volleyball team plays in the Orange Empire Conference Tournament Final Wednesday night at Orange Coast.

Irvine Valley has played Orange Coast tough in two OEC regular season matches this season, but OCC has come out on top in four sets in each contest.

Orange Coast goes into the match with a perfect record of 9-0 overall in 2021, while Irvine Valley is at 7-2.

OCC defeated Irvine Valley, 22-25, 25-20, 25-21, 29-27 at IVC on May 12 and then followed up with a 25-18, 27-29, 25-20, 25-21 victory on May 14 at Orange Coast.

The tourney final contest features a slew of top players and stat leaders in the conference.

For Orange Coast, Calvin Sanborn is averaging 4.14 kills per set, which is third in the OEC. He also ranks first in aces at 0.62.

Caden Satterfield averages 3.07 kills per set and Carter Depue is at 2.87 kills per set.

Depue is tops in the conference in hitting percentage at an impressive .406 and Troy Culp leads the conference in blocks per set at 1.11.

Also leading the Pirates on defense is libero Cole Tran, who is third in the conference in digs per set (3.07) and second in total digs (89).

Running the OCC offense is setter Eric Beebe, averaging 8.83 assists per set.

For Irvine Valley, freshman outside hitters Colin Chillingworth and JT Demure, freshman setter Andrew Perez and freshman libero Adam Schulte have led the way.

Chillingworth is second in the conference in kills per set (4.15) and total kills (112). He is also hitting .317, which ranks fourth in the conference and is tied for second in aces per set at 0.44.

Demure averages 2.92 kills per set and is fifth in the conference, hitting .311. Demure is also fourth in the conference in digs per set at 2.58.

Perez leads the conference in assists per set at 11.56, Schulte is fourth in total digs (64) and second in aces per set (0.44) and freshman middle blocker Trevor Weinert is second in the conference in blocks per set at 1.00.
