Volleyball team knocks off Moorpark behind Gossett's 26 kills

Irvine Valley's men's volleyball team earned its best win of the season so far on Wednesday night.

The Lasers, ranked No. 8 in the state, defeated previously unbeaten and fourth-ranked Moorpark on the road in five, tough sets.

IVC came out on top 23-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-27, 15-10 to stop a two-game skid and improve to 3-5 overall. Palomar dropped to 5-1 overall.

Sophomore opposite Demetre Gossett was the star. He went off for 26 kills with only three errors in 26 attempts. Gossett hit .488 on the night and added 10 digs and two aces.

Freshman outside hitter Josh Beymer added 12 kills, sophomore outside hitter Max Wise had nine kills and six digs and freshman middle blocker Aaman Soma contributed eight kills for the Lasers.

Irvine Valley also got 13 digs from sophomore libero Red Ramos, one solo block and six assist blocks from freshman middle blocker Trevor Weinert and 60 assists, three digs and three solo blocks from sophomore setter Jimi Wilson.

Irvine Valley is back in action on Thursday night at home, hosting Palomar at 6 p.m.
