Men's volleyball team clinches second in conference with sweep

Irvine Valley's men's volleyball team had trouble with Golden West in the first round of Orange Empire Conference action.

The Lasers had to rally for a five-set victory.

That wasn't the case on Wednesday night in the rematch.

Irvine Valley recorded its ninth sweep of the season and second in a row, beating the Rustlers, 25-20, 25-18, 25-16, in a win that wrapped up second place in the Orange Empire Conference for IVC.

The Lasers, ranked No. 5 in the state, improved their record to 13-6 overall and 5-2 in conference.

Irvine Valley hit .405 on the night as a team.

Sophomore outside hitter Sean Carroll had 12 kills, freshman outside hitter Demetre Gossett added 10 kills and three aces and freshman middle blocker Tristan Belsby finished with nine kills and five block assists for IVC.

Freshman libero Red Ramos contributed seven digs and freshman setter Jimi Wilson ran the offense with 39 assists.

The Lasers play again on Friday, taking on No. 7 Santiago Canyon in the final match of the regular season. It starts at 3 p.m. at Irvine Valley.
