Men's volleyball team sweeps at Mesa, readies for OEC play

Irvine Valley's men's volleyball team finished off the pre-conference portion of its schedule on Friday night and came away with one of its easiest wins of the season.

The Lasers, ranked No. 4 in the state, defeated San Diego Mesa, 25-15, 25-15, 25-9, on the road.

For Irvine Valley, it was the squad's fifth win in its last six matches and improved the team's record to 8-4 overall.

It was a true team effort with 10 different players recording kills in the match.

Freshman middle blocker Tristan Belsby ended with six kills in two sets played and sophomore outside hitter Sean Carroll had five kills in six attempts along with three digs in just a set.

Freshman outside hitter Max Wise (three kills and four aces), freshman right side Luke Davis (three kills) and freshman outside hitter Daniel Soliz (three kills and five aces) also played a nice role in the Lasers' victory.

Freshman setter Isaiah Powell (13 assists) and Jimi Wilson (nine assists) ran the offense.

Irvine Valley hit .306 as a team on the night against San Diego Mesa, which saw its record slip to 0-11 overall.

IVC will take this week off from action before the start of Orange Empire Conference play. The Lasers open OEC action against No. 1 and undefeated Orange Coast next Wednesday, March 13 at home at 6 p.m.
