Men's volleyball team can't keep up with El Camino at home

Irvine Valley's men's volleyball team couldn't stay with El Camino in a key early-season match last Friday afternoon at home.

The Lasers won the first set, but fell to the Warriors, 26-28, 25-22, 25-13, 25-15.

El Camino was ranked No. 3 and Irvine Valley was fourth in the first state coaches poll of the season. Irvine Valley's record fell to 6-4 overall, while El Camino improved to 4-1.

Irvine Valley, which was averaging hitting .305 as a team heading into the match, finished at just  hit just .215.

The Lasers also hurt themselves with 15 service errors.

Sophomore outside hitter Sean Carroll finished with 14 kills and three blocks assists and freshman right side Demetre Gossett had 12 kills and seven digs for IVC.

Freshman middle blocker Grant Marocchi ended with nine kills, hit .533 and had three block assists, freshman outside hitter Declan Holder added seven kills and six digs and freshman setter Isaiah Powell ended with 35 assists.

Irvine Valley will be back in action next Wednesday when it hosts Miramar at 6 p.m.
