Irvine Valley's men's volleyball team rolled Grossmont on Wednesday for its third straight win.

The Lasers' 25-16, 25-18, 25-17 victory improved their record to 6-3 overall.

And Irvine Valley, which is ranked No. 4 in the state, has dropped just one set over the last three matches.

Grossmont's record went to 2-4 overall.

The Griffins hung with the Lasers early on for most of the three sets, but IVC pulled away in each.

Freshman right side Demetre Gossett had a nice match for Irvine Valley. He had 12 kills and hit .579 on the afternoon.

Freshman outside hitter Declan Holder finished with 10 kills and five digs.

Holder had three straight kills as part of a 5-1 run to help Irvine Valley pull away in the third and final set.

Irvine Valley led, 13-12, and then got a kill from freshman middle blocker Tristan Belsby and a kill by Gossette to make it 15-12.

After Jesus Rodriguez came up with a kill for Grossmont, Holder had back-to-back-to-back kills, including the last one off the block to put Irvine Valley in front, 18-13, and force a Griffin timeout.

A big overpass kill by freshman middle blocker Grant Marocchi put IVC in front, 19-15, and a kill by sophomore outside hitter Sean Carroll gave Irvine Valley a 20-16 lead.

The Lasers got to match point at 24-17 after a kill and a block by freshman middle blocker Kalei Ho'opai and a kill by Carroll.

And two points later Grossmont served out to end things.

Carroll added six kills and three blocks, Marocchi had five kills and five blocks, freshman defensive specialist Kainoa Downing contributed five digs and freshman setter Isaiah Powell ended with 32 assists, five blocks and five digs.

Irvine Valley plays again on Friday, hosting No. 3 El Camino, in a big, early-season match. The contest starts at 2 p.m.
