Men's volleyball player Josh Evers headed to Aquinas College

Irvine Valley men's volleyball player Josh Evers has signed with Aquinas College.

He joins former IVC teammate Ruben Lopez in heading to the Grand Rapids, Mich. college.

Aquinas will begin a men's volleyball program beginning in the fall of the 2018-2019 academic year with the first official competition in the winter of 2018.

The college will compete as part of the NAIA.

A total of 31 NAIA institutions across the country currently offer the sport of men's volleyball with the goal of qualifying for the National Invitational Tournament in mid-April.

Evers was a libero for IVC in 2016 and 2017.

He played in all 19 matches in 2017 and averaged 1.84 digs per set. Evers was also second on the team in aces with 20.

He helped the Lasers finish with a record of 15-4 overall, take second in the OEC, make the playoffs and reach the state championship quarterfinals.

Evers played some of his best volleyball at the end of the season with three straight matches with double digit digs to end the year. He had 12 digs in a four-set loss to Orange coast on Apr. 12, 13 digs in a four-set win over Fullerton on Apr. 14 and then a season-best 14 digs in Irvine Valley's four-set playoff loss to El Camino on Apr. 21.

As a freshman during the 2016 season, Lopez averaged 1.51 digs per set as the Lasers had a record of 11-9 overall.

Evers came to Irvine Valley from Woodbridge High in Irvine.
