Men's volleyball team captures sixth victory in a row

Irvine Valley's men's volleyball team played up and down over the first two sets on Wednesday night at Miramar, but still came away with another three-set win.

The Lasers, ranked No. 3 in the state in the latest coaches poll, improved their record to 6-1 with a 25-23, 25-21, 25-15 win.

IVC has won six matches in a row. It has three sweeps over its last four victories.

Irvine Valley, which is third in the state in team hitting percentage, hit .319 on the night.

Sophomore outside hitter Patrick Furlong led the way with 10 kills and four blocks. He hit .438.

Freshman outside hitter Trent Williams contributed eight kills and hit .333.

Sophomore middle blocker Matt August and freshman outside hitter Sean Carroll each added seven kills. August also had three digs and two blocks, while Carroll chipped in four aces.

Sophomore setter Austin McBain finished with 30 assists, four kills and four digs in the win.

Irvine Valley jumped out to a big 17-8 lead in the first set, but then dropped 10 straight points and trailed, 18-17.

The Lasers were down, 22-19, in the opening set before rallying for the victory.

IVC also had to come back in the second set for the win before putting things together in the third set and cruising to the three-set victory.

Miramar's record dropped to 1-7 on the year.

Irvine Valley plays again on Friday at home, hosting San Diego Mesa at 6 p.m.
