Men's volleyball team has an easy time in sweep at Grossmont

Irvine Valley's men's volleyball team won its fifth straight match with a sweep at Grossmont on Wednesday night.

The Lasers, ranked No. 3 in the state, breezed past the Griffins, 25-17, 25-19, 25-12, to improve their record to 5-1 overall.

Grossmont fell to 0-7 overall.

It was the team's second sweep of the season.

Irvine Valley hit .412 as a team on the night, while Grossmont hit just .116.

Sophomore middle blocker Matt August had another big night, finishing with 16 kills and nine blocks. He also hit .565.

Sophomore outside hitter Patrick Furlong ended with 11 kills and hit .450. He added four digs.

Freshman outside hitter Sean Carroll contributed 11 kills, freshman outside hitter Trent Williams had five kills and four digs.

Sophomore setter Austin McBain finished with 40 assists, six digs and four blocks and freshman libero Kelsey Yogi had 12 digs for the Lasers.

Irvine Valley will play again next Wednesday on the road, traveling to San Diego Miramar.
