Men's volleyball player Cody Hermanson signs with Ottawa

Irvine Valley sophomore men's volleyball player Cody Hermanson has signed with Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kan.

Hermanson, a 6-1 outside hitter, helped Irvine Valley finish with a record of 15-4 overall this past season.

The team finished second in the Orange Empire Conference, was ranked No. 1 in the state for much of the year and reached the CCCAA State Championship quarterfinals.

Hermanson played in 17 matches and averaged 1.29 kills, 0.64 blocks and 0.46 digs per set. He hit .285 on the year.

He had seven matches with five kills or more, including recording a season-high nine kills in a 3-0 conference win over Santiago Canyon and in a 3-1 conference win over Fullerton.

In Irvine Valley's 3-1 victory over Fullerton in the final match of the regular season on sophomore night, Hermanson finished with nine kills, hit .600 and also recorded eight blocks.

He recorded a season-high 14.0 points in the match.

Hermanson is headed to Ottawa, which is an NAIA school. Ottawa is in its third year as a men's volleyball program.

The Braves reached the final of the Midwest Conference Tournament where they lost to Missouri Baptist in four sets.

Ottawa also made the NAIA Men's National Invitational event.
