Men's volleyball team sweeps Santiago Canyon once again

Irvine Valley's men's volleyball team swept Santiago Canyon for the second time this season in an Orange Empire Conference match on the road on Wednesday night.

Irvine Valley, ranked second in the state, came out on top, 25-12, 25-14, 25-15, to improve its record to 12-2 overall and 3-1 in conference.

The win also clinched a spot in the State Playoffs for the Lasers.

IVC sits in second place in the conference - a match behind first-place and top-ranked Orange Coast.

Irvine Valley hit .427 on Wednesday night.

Freshman outside hitter Patrick Furlong led the way. He finished with 13 kills, hit .455 and had four digs and three blocks.

Sophomore outside hitter Cody Hermanson added nine kills and six digs, freshman outside hitter Brennan To had seven kills, hit .583 (no errors) and had nine digs and three blocks and freshman middle blocker Matt August contributed five kills and five blocks.

Freshman setter Austin McBain chipped in 38 assists and three digs and three blocks.

Irvine Valley plays again on Friday night, hosting Golden West in a conference match at 6 p.m.
