Men's volleyball team improves to 7-1 with another sweep

Irvine Valley's men's volleyball team won its fourth match in a row, sweeping at San Diego Mesa in a nonconference contest on Friday.

The Lasers came away with a 25-21, 25-14, 25-20 win over the Olympians to improve their record to 7-1 overall.

For Irvine Valley, which is ranked No. 1 in the state, it was the team's second sweep of the week and fifth this season.

IVC was very efficient on offense once again, hitting .455 as a team.

Freshman middle blocker Matt August led the way, recording 11 kills and hitting .714. He added four blocks.

Freshman outside hitter Brennan To had seven kills, freshman outside hitter Patrick Furlong added five kills, three digs and five blocks and sophomore outside hitters Ruben Lopez and Cody Hermanson each finished with four kills. Hermanson also had four blocks.

Freshman setter Austin McBain ran the offense with 29 assists and had three kills, two digs and two blocks of his own.

Irvine Valley doesn't play again until next Friday at Santa Barbara City at 6 p.m.
