Top-ranked men's volleyball team sweeps past Palomar

Irvine Valley improved its record to 4-1 overall with a 25-22, 25-22, 25-18 sweep at Palomar last Thursday.

It was Irvine Valley's third sweep of the season and kept the Lasers, who are ranked No. 1 in the CCCMVCA State Poll, unbeaten against community college teams on the year. IVC's lone loss was to four-year Concordia.

Sophomore outside hitter Ruben Lopez had 12 kills and hit .391 and freshman setter Matt August chipped in 11 kills and hit .381 for IVC in the win.

Sophomore outside hitter Cody Hermanson contributed six kills, hit .455 and added six blocks.

Freshman outside hitter Spencer Alden finished with six kills and freshman outside hitter Patrick Furlong had five kills and four digs.

Sophomore libero Josh Evers had a team-high five digs in the win.

IVC hit .325 as a team in the win. Freshman setter Austin McBain ran the offense with 41 assists and also had two blocks and two aces in the victory.

Irvine Valley plays its first home match of the season next Wednesday at home against Grossmont at 4 p.m.
