Men's volleyball team on top of the CCCMVCA state poll again

Irvine Valley's men's volleyball team is ranked No. 1 for the second straight week in the California Community College Men's Volleyball Coaches Association State Poll.

The Lasers dropped their only match last week, but to a tough four-year university.

Irvine Valley's record slipped to 3-1 overall after a three-set loss to NCAA Division II Concordia.

Concordia came out on top, 25-19, 26-24, 25-11. Sophomore outside hitter Ruben Lopez led IVC with six kills and freshman middle blocker Matt August had five kills. Freshman setter Austin McBain contributed 25 assists.

The Lasers get back to a community college opponent this week when they travel to play at Palomar on Thursday.

Orange Coast, which swept at Santa Barbara City on Wednesday, remained second in the poll with Santa Monica moving up a spot to the No. 3 position. The Corsairs improved to 5-1 with wins over Fullerton and Moorpark in the Moorpark quad on Friday.

Long Beach City slipped a spot to No. 4.

Pierce was the biggest mover this week, jumping two spots to fifth after beating two Orange Empire Conference schools last week. The Brahmas took down Fullerton in five sets on the road on Wednesday and then beat Golden West in four on Friday at home.
