Men's volleyball team has impressive results at OCC quad

Irvine Valley's men's volleyball team showed that it will be a team to watch this season with two impressive wins on Saturday in the Orange Coast quad event.

The Lasers, ranked No. 3 in the California Community College Men's Volleyball Coaches Association State Poll last week, swept two other top-five teams, including No. 1 Long Beach City.

IVC started the day with a 25-18, 25-16, 25-20 win over Long Beach City.

Freshman outside hitter Brennan To led the way with 13 kills and hit .667. He also had two aces.

Sophomore outside hitter Ruben Lopez added 10 kills and six digs and freshman opposite Patrick Furlong had five kills, two blocks and two aces.

Freshman middle blocker Matt August chipped in four kills and five blocks and freshman setter Austin McBain had 36 assists and three aces.

The Lasers then defeated fifth-ranked Santa Monica, 25-16, 25-11, 25-9.

Irvine Valley hit an impressive .520 in the match with just seven errors in 50 attempts.

Lopez hit .727 and had nine kills, three blocks and five aces.

To had eight kills and three digs, freshman middle blocker Mahdi Younis hit .875 with seven kills and August hit .545 with seven kills and eight blocks.

McBain contributed 28 assists and also had four blocks and three digs.

Irvine Valley plays again on Wednesday night, taking on Division II Concordia on the road at 7 p.m.
