Volleyball players Radecki, Van Liefde, Costello named all-PCAC

Three Irvine Valley men's volleyball players were named to all-Pacific Coast Athletic Conference teams last week.

Freshman opposite Kyle Radecki was named second team all-conference and sophomore setter Peter Van Liefde and freshman outside hitter Garret Costello were each named to the third team.

Radecki averaged 3.35 kills and hit .267 on the season. He finished with double-digit kills in 13 of the 18 matches he played in this season with a season-high 22 kills in a five-set loss against Santa Barbara.

He also had 18 kills and hit .389 in a IVC sweep at Palomar.

Radecki was third in the conference in kills per set.

Costello averaged 2.49 kills a set and hit .285 on the year. He also averaged .63 digs per set. Costello had double-digit kills in five matches with a season-high 21 kills in Irvine Valley's five-set win at Moorpark.

He hit a season-best .636 with seven kills in 11 attempts with no errors in a Laser four-set victory at Moorpark.

Van Liefde, who made the move from an outside hitter to setter this season, averaged 9.73 assists a set along with 1.06 digs, 0.58 blocks and 0.67 aces per set.

Van Liefde led the state in aces per set and ranked third in assists.

He topped 35 assists in eight matches with a season-high 50 assists in a win at Moorpark and also in the team's victory at Palomar.

Irvine Valley finished with a record of 11-9 overall and 8-6 in conference. The team placed tied for fourth in conference and just missed advancing to the state playoffs.
