Irvine Valley's men's volleyball team put together its best three sets of the season so far this season and swept Moorpark, 25-22, 25-16, 25-15, on Wednesday afternoon at home.

The Lasers won their second straight match and improved their record to 3-2 on the year.

"It has been hard with this team to piece together the right lineup," IVC coach Ki Yi said. "Slowly, but surely we are gaining some continuity. We are slowing down the offense a little bit and our hitters are being a lot more productive."

Irvine Valley got contributions from all around in Wednesday's win. The Lasers were- paced by sophomore outside hitter Cole Murray, who had 11 kills.

Freshman outside hitter Peter Van Liefde finished with 10 kills, sophomore opposite Arek Halaj had eight kills and sophomore outside hitter Josh Schmidt finished with five kills.

Sophomore libero Billy Crow had a team-high 16 digs. Freshman setter Jake Adams ran the offense with 32 assists. Halaj also had eight assists in his time setting.

"Cole is really hitting a lot better and I thought Peter was great in the third set," Yi said. "I thought Jake also did a nice job making decisions."

Irvine Valley was in a back and forth first set with Moorpark.

The score was tied nearly the whole way.

Moorpark took a 21-20 lead on a net by IVC. Irvine Valley tied it at 21-21 on a kill by sophomore middle blocker Matt Mittry.

After a service error by the Lasers gave Moorpark a 22-21 advantage, IVC scored the final four points of the set to win it.

The run started with a kill by Mittry. Then freshman middle blocker Robert Ryley came through with a big solo block to give IVC a 23-22 lead.

A kill by Murray got Irvine Valley to set point. A hitting error by Moorpark ended the set.

IVC dominated the next two sets.

A kill by sophomore middle blocker Nate Kofman gave IVC a 24-14 lead in the second set. Three points later, Irvine Valley took the set on a service error by Moorpark.

Van Liefde put away the third set and the match with a kill off the block.

Irvine Valley has a week off before playing again.

The Lasers are at San Diego City next Wednesday for a Pacific Coast Athletic Conference match.
