Irvine Valley men's volleyball player Davis Cannon signed his letter of intent to play at Long Beach State in the spring of 2016 earlier this week.
Cannon will be a sophomore opposite for the Lasers in the spring.
The 6-7 Cannon was a key reason why Irvine Valley made the CCCAA State Playoffs and reached the semifinals at the state event this past spring.
He was named first team all-Pacific Coast Athletic Conference.
Cannon led the team in kills with 198, averaging 3.05 kills per set.
He also ranked first on the team in aces with 18 and was third on the squad in total blocks with 46.
Cannon had a hitting percentage of .298.
He had 10 matches last season where he totaled at least 10 kills and four matches with 17 kills or more.
His highlight match of the season came in Irvine Valley's biggest win of the year. Cannon finished with 24 kills, seven digs and four aces and hit .357 as Irvine Valley upset Long Beach City in five sets in the first round of the state playoffs.
Another big match for Cannon came in Irvine Valley's four-set conference win over Grossmont in which he ended with 18 kills in 28 swings with two errors (.571 hitting percentage). He chipped in four aces, six blocks and five digs in the match.
Cannon, a former Foothill High standout, is heading to a Long Beach State program headed by coach Alan Knipe.
